random facts

November 17th, 2008 by Ari

Things I learned today:

  1. The phrase “Abra Cadabra” (uttered by cheap magicians everywhere) is derived from Aramaic.
  2. Dr. Ruth, the 4″7 sex therapist, used to be an Israeli sniper.
  3. This 4 bedroom house in Georgetown selling for $375K is a typo.

    1. I can’t remember exactly why I looked it up, but somewhere in the “Harry Potter” reading over the year there was something about “Abra Cadabra” and “Avada Cadaver” (The Killing Curse) being linked and the original coming from Aramaic. Maybe it was Rowlings who said it.

    2. You didn’t know? One of my favorite things about her is that she used to be an Israeli sniper. Puts a new view on her speeches.
