useless elections in DC

October 2nd, 2008 by Ari

According to the only poll I could find which actually polled the residents of DC on their voting preferences, McCain is currently garnering 13% support. If he maintains this level of support, it will be the largest total for a republican presidential candidate in some time:

  • 2004 – Kerry-Bush: 90-9
  • 2000 – Gore-Bush:  86-9
  • 1996 -  Clinton-Dole: 85-9
  • 1992 -  Clinton-Bush: 85-9
  • 1988 – Dukakis-Bush:  82-14
  • 1984 – Modale-Regan: 85-13
  • 1980 – Carter-Regan: 74-13

Not since the 1980s has a republican presidential candidate garnered more than 10% of the vote in the overwhelmingly democratic district. Now we finally have some intrigue – Can McCain break the 14% record? Can Obama match Kerry’s 90%? It could come down to the wire in this very competitive swing district – expect the candidates to spend a lot of time and energy focusing on these 3 important electoral votes.
