modern art is crap

August 26th, 2008 by Ari

This is just plain awesome:

A giant inflatable dog turd created by the American artist Paul McCarthy was blown from its moorings at a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a window before landing in the grounds of a children’s home.

The exhibit, entitled Complex Shit, is the size of a house. It has a safety system that is supposed to deflate it in bad weather, but it did not work on this occasion.

The jokes practically write themselves:

  • The power lines weren’t worth shit.
  • The power company shit itself when this happened.
  • The safety system was shit.
  • Headline: American artist shits on Children’s home.
  • McCarthy must have shit for brains.

Rarely is the crappiness of modern art so self-evident.

I got one: So much for hole-y shit!

It’s a fun situation when a sophisticated individual, aware of modern art, would see a giant inflatable turd flying through the air and not even blink. If the turd hadn’t crashed into a home, the artist would probably have said it was supposed to fly away, representing some impossibly vague concept about man’s relationship with the world.

I thought of a better one… All of the balloon purists who said that a Snoopy balloon in the Macy’s parade would open Pandora’s box have been proven right.
