We’re still number 2

November 20th, 2007 by admin

It looks like NY Jets fans are trying to take away Philly’s claim to having the most poorly behaved football fans in the NFL.

While Jets’ fans behavior discussed in the article is certainly boorish and puerile, it doesn’t even come close to getting Iggle fans out of the cellar.

Really, throwing iceballs at the refs and even Santa, plus other thuggish behavior common at Philly home games goes well beyond people mistaking a football Sunday in the Meadowlands for Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Philly is still the only place where a jail was built and a judge brought onsite to the stadium for prompt arraignments of all those who had to be arrested at Eagle games.

At least the Eagles arrested their hooligans.

This may be a point of infinite debate, but I would rather have fans throwing snowballs onto the field than sexually objectifying female fans.

When you think about it, is the NFL really a “family” event? You have the holy panacea of violence (the game), sex (cheerleaders), and alcohol (the fans).

I think this all depends on what you mean by most poorly behaved. You seem to mean actively engaging in criminal behavior. If that’s true, I don’t see how anyone comes close to Raiders fans in the 80′s and 90′s. Say what you want about Gate D or Iggles jail (which has, like rocky, been abolished from the Linc), no one wears the green (NY or PHL) and then starts a gang war or shoots a kid for daring to wear the wrong colors on their block. That’s reserved for the silver and black.

PS: I also think Eagles fans are way worse than Jets fans because the Jets boo a consistently mediocre to gawdawful team (3 postseason wins in the last 20 years does not a happy fan make). Eagles fans, however, boo a team that’s won at least one playoff game six of the last seven seasons! Have a modicum of loyalty, for God’s sake!
