I don’t blame the state or the schools, I blame the lawyers and the overly litigeous society we have created.

In his book, congressman J.D. Hayworth made some comments about Henry Ford’s “americanization” project in a positive light. Since this was a notoriously anti-semetic idea of Ford’s, it is understandable that some Jews took offense.

Now let’s review what a good politician would do: he would make a speech apologizing for offending anyone, explain that he was taken out of context, and restate what he really meant.

What did Hayworth do? He bailed out of an appearance at a local synagogue and sent an aide instead. The aide told the crowd that Hayworth was a “more observant Jew” than they were. (This is interesting because Hayworth is Baptist). When the crowd walked out and a few people stayed behind for Q+A, another aide commented: “No wonder there are anti-Semites.”

As a public service announcement, I would like to mention that Hayworth’s opponent, Harry Mitchell, has, to the best of my knowledge, never been implicated in any activities involving anti-semetism, sleeping with pages, or satan worshipping.
