random stuff

Random things:

  • I was checking out in the grocery store when the lady at the checkout line noticed me tossing a package of cheese into a bag which clready had meat in it. “Don’t you always keep your meat and your dairy separate?” she inquired.
  • The El-AL website proudly trumpets that they support IE, and other browsers will be supported soon. Yeesh, what decade are we in again? Speaking as a former web developer who spent time making sure javascript code would run in both IE and Netscape (I didn’t say it was recent experience), I can tell you with all confidence that it really isn’t that hard. We’re talking about just making sure to reference objects in one particular manner instead of another.
  • My office is on a “soft close” the week of Christmas. That means everyone is expected to take vacation time, unless they really REALLY want to work. I tried to get myself placed in the latter category since it’s not like I’ll be doing anything else over Christmas week (my dad will be working, my brother will still be in school, etc., etc.). Unfortunately they reasoned that they are already letting one person in my group work that week, and there won’t be enough work for both of us, so they’re making me waste a week of vacation on a holiday which is entirely meaningless to me. Why couldn’t they have forced me to take a week of vacation for sukkot or passover instead? Every day I’m starting to get jealous of Efrat more and more.
  • I’m going to Canada in November for a friend’s wedding. If anyone has any suggestions of things to do in Toronto, let me know.
  • If anyone knows of anything fo rmy wife to do while I’m in the hockey hall of fame, please let her know. :-)
  • Mother nature hates the New York Mets. Good for her.
  • I just found out that a friend of mine here has a family that runs a chocolate factory in New York.
  • Dredze and I finished the first chapter of pesachim tonight. Only 9 more to go! woohoo!

Toronto has a whole lot of excellent restaurants, but they’re pretty spread out. Surprisingly good sushi…

Actually, Mother Nature really likes the Mets. Glavine works best on normal rest and that’s exactly what he’s getting.

      You’re just jealous.

    3. Angel one Says:

Everyone works better on full rest. The first rainout allowed the Cards to pitch Carpenter is games 2 and 6 instead of 3 and 7 while not affecting the Mets a whole lot. The second one came a day after the Cardinals (extremely thin) bullpen got hammered for hits and runs. The Mets have a much deeper bullpen, and used it less the previous day, so the extra day of rest wasn’t as necesarry for them. I think the rainouts came at crucial times for the Cards.

    4. Elanit Says:

Pitching Carpenter in Game 2 wasn’t the smartest thing for the Cardinals. Yes, the ended up winning the game, but that’s despite Carpenter. Everyone (but La Russa apparently) knows Carpenter’s home-away splits. I was shocked when they announced he would pitch Game 2 instead of 3.
