cheese
Friday, June 3rd, 2005 by adminI like cheese. Feta, cheddar, mozarella, and parmesan used to be the four basic food groups of my diet. Since I keep kosher though, it’s sometimes difficult to get kosher cheese. Most manufacturers use rennet to curdle the milk to make cheese. Since rennet comes from a cow’s stomach, and the rules of kashrut state that there is be a clear and distinct seperation of milk and meat, it is often hard to find kosher cheese. I was in Brookville supermarket this afternoon and stopped by their cheese section. The owner is Jewish the store frequently has a good selection of kosher food. They have apparently started to import many new kinds of cheese, including a kosher blue cheese, which is something I’ve never seen before. They also had a huge variety of goat cheeses, a flavored goat cheese, some fresh feta, a few colby varieties, and a bunch of imported things I’d never seen before. The pepper jack was also back. (They used to stock it but the manufacturer apparently stopped making it a few months ago.) It was so much cheese I didn’t even know what to do. Good thing shavuot is coming.
